Mother of Fifteen
Children, Passes


Mrs. Ida Digby, 64, wife of W. D. Digby, pioneer resident of this community, passed away at the family home 2 miles south of Davis at 9:30 a.m. last Saturday morning. She had been in failing health the past two years. The immediate cause of her death was a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at the home at 3 p.m. Monday, conducted by Rev. Clyde Spear, pastor of the Baptist church, followed by burial in Green Hill cemetery, with Hutchins & Sons in charge.

Mrs. Digby, whose maiden name was Ida Hunt, was the mother of 15 children and hers was the first death in the family. She was born in Florence, Ala., Nov. 10, 1879; moved from Alabama to Texas, where on Nov. 15, 1894, she married Mr. Digby. They moved to Davis in 1902, and she spent the remainder of her life near this city. For a long time the family resided about 10 miles west of Davis.

Survivors include her husband, six daughters and nine sons, namely: Mrs. Addie Harper, Sulphur, Okla.; Mrs. Hettie Farris, Taloga, Okla.; Mrs. Josie Herron, Homer, Okla.; Mrs. Augusta Singleterry, Homer, Okla.; Mrs. Bessie Bridges, Woodland, Okla.; Miss Roxie Digby, Davis, Okla.; Ernest Digby, Dallas, Texas; Luster, Jesse, Johnnie and Rosco Digby, Davis, Okla.; Pvt. Hershel Digby, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; Pfc. Woodrow Digby and Pfc. Alfred Digby, both in New Guinea; Pvt. B. F. Digby in France; three brothers, Carol Hunt, Cloud Chief, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Dora Wells, Hennepin, Okla.; 43 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of friends. All the children were present at the funeral except the three sons overseas.
