Preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Alice Snell Hunt, stepfather Slim Lynch, husband Orlen Victor Hawkins and her brother Alvin Hunt. Survived by daughter Paula Kay Pope of Garland, son Thomas H. Hawkins of Dallas. Grandchildren Sherry Long, Phillip Pope, and Aaron Pope all of Dallas; and great granddaughter Katrina Hekimian of Garland. Mrs. Hawkins was a 1932 graduate of Limestone Gap High School. In 1933, she started teaching in Atoka Ok, where she spent the first 10 years of her career. She married Orlen Victor Hawkins in 1941, moving to Dallas in 1945, Mr. Hawkins died in 1986. She taught in Garland during the 1954-1955 school year and joined the Dallas district in 1955. Mrs. Hawkins taught at Edwin J. Kiest elementary until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the Second Baptist church in Dallas. Mrs. Hawkins died Thursday of complications of pneumonia at the Christian Care center of Mesquite. Services were Saturday at South Garland Baptist Church.
