Mary Effie Hunt was born on April 14, 1891 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Andrew T. Hunt and Rebecca Ary. She had one sister named Sithey Ellen Hunt.
Mary Effie first married Harry Sanford Clark in September 1907 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. Harry Clark was a native of Carter County, Kentucky. They made their home in Arkansas for a few years, and their first three sons were born there. In late 1915, the family moved to Carter County, Kentucky where they had three more sons. Harry was a coal miner.
Their marriage lasted 30 years, until Mary Effie returned to the west. After their divorce, Mary Effie married Thomas Arthur Gleason in 1938. They had no children together.
Mary Gleason died on December 21, 1980 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was survived by five of her sons. Both Mary Effie Hunt Clark Gleason and her husband, Thomas A. Gleason are buried in the Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
