Asheville - Its a sad time in Chunns Cove Glenn U. Hunnicutt, 88, of 124 Chunns Cove Road, died on Tuesday, Jan. 31, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was a native of Buncombe County. He was the son of the late Ulyesses Hunnicutt and Theodosia Bartlett. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, which he helped to build in 1936.

A loving husband, father, neighbor and friend, he was best known for his extensive knowledge and expertise with horses. For several years, he was a dedicated inspector for the SPCA. He was a founder of Chunns Cove Horse Club and served as president for many years. As a horse trainer, he established many of the horse related activities that still continue in this area today.

Glenn is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Dorothy Dysland Hunnicutt; two daughters, Ann Lanning and her husband, Bill, of Pilot Point, Texas, Audrey Metcalf of Fairview; and one son, JR Hunnicutt of Asheville; three brothers, Hilliard, Frank and Cecil; and one sister, Vaulty, of Asheville; and many other loving relatives and so many friends that were loved "same as family."

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lawrence and his sister, Amanda.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with the Revs. Wade Huntley and Otis "Mack" White officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
