Lillian Hulva
CARBONDALE -- Lillian M. Hulva, 98, formerly of Salem, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, in Carbondale Rehab and Care Center.
She was born May 20, 1913, in Heyworth, the daughter of William and Myrtle (VanHorn) Wherry. She married Latham Drew Hulva Dec. 7, 1929, in Pontiac, and he preceded her in death in 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Schwartz and fiancé Barry Bain of Carbondale and Sandra Hulva; son-in-law, Dale Jones: brother, William "Bill" Wherry Jr.; grandchildren, Scott Schwartz and fiancé Michele, Tammy Vaughn and husband Jeff, Bradley Schwartz and girlfriend Julie, Brian Jones and wife Teresa, Wesley McBride, Robby McBride and Penny McBride; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Patricia Jones; brother, Gerald Wherry and wife Laverne; and sister, Betty Bell and husband Darwin.
Mrs. Hulva worked many years as an agent for Aflac Insurance Company. She was an avid Cardinals fan, and she enjoyed reading and participating in women's circles in Salem.
She loved playing the organ and was active in her church. She was of the Methodist faith.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, with Pastor Steve Upchurch officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the grave site.
Hillcrest Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Centralia is in charge of arrangements.
