OLD RESIDENT IS CALLED BY DEATH
Mrs. Amanda H. Baker Lived In Wapello County Nearly Ninety-One Years
Mrs. Amanda Harriet Baker, 91 years old, widow of Hiram T. Baker and a resident of Wapello county nearly all her life, died at her home on Ottumwa route 7 at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.
She was born in Warren county, Ohio, August 31, 1842. When less than a year old she was brought to this county by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hull.
When she was 18 years old she came to Ottumwa and at the age of 22 years was married to Hiram T. Baker. Following their marriage they moved into a log cabin on the farm where she lived the rest of her life.
She was a member of the old Main Street Methodist Episcopal church for many years and continued her membership in the new Wesley Methodist church after that was built.
Surviving Mrs. Baker are two sons, J.B. Baker and H.L. Baker of Ottumwa, and one daughter, Mrs. Rhoda B. Cheanaborn [sic] of Burlington; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One son, John G. Baker, preceded her in death in 1888. Her husband died in 1921.
The body has been removed to the Lester Jay funeral home, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The Rev. O.B. Preston, pastor of the Plymouth Congregational church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the Ottumwa cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert L. Baker, L.H. Baker, Charles Baker, Ray McCarty, Hiram McCarty and W.P. Bowerton.
