She was born on August 25, 1849, in Hopkinton, one of 11 children of Asachael and Mary Risdon Chittenden, and was the last to survive. Her grandfather, Elisha Chittenden, served seven years in the Revolutionary War, entering when he was 16 years old. She attended public and select schools in her native village, later going to Lawrenceville Academy. She taught several terms in Dickinson Center, Buckton and Lawrenceville. On August 16, 1870 she married Sanford W. Hulburd of Lawrenceville. In 1872 the couple came to Brasher Falls, where he manufactured starch and broom handles for many years. Five children were born to them. A daughter, Mary, passed away in infancy in 1876. Four survive;
Leroy C. Hulburd, engineer assistant of the commissioner of canals and waterways in Albany; Miss Anabel of the State Library at Albany, but for some time has been caring for the home and her parents; Lucius S, superintendent of the Poughkeepsie highway bridges and Miss Ethel, employed in the Albany State Library.
She is survived by her husband and a granddaughter, Miss Francene, daughter of M & M Leroy C. Hulburd of Albany.
Interment was made in Fairview cemetery in Brasher Falls.
