Edward P. Hughes, a street car motorman for the Illinois Power company for 34 years, died at ST. John's hospital yesterday at the age of 76. Mr. Hughes was born July 21, 1855, in Long Creek, Ill., and had been a resident of Springfield for 36 years. Death followed an illness of 4 months.

Decedent is survived by the widow, Mrs. Mary E. Hughes; a son, Edward P., Santa Monica, Cal.; two daughters, Mrs. Lola Kohl, Bissel, and Mrs. Olive Russell, city; three stepsons, George F. and Horace R. Palmer of this city and Stephen A. Palmer of Bloomington; four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; three brothers, Rufus of California, Marion of Arizona and Pinkney of Decatur, and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Smalley and Mrs. Hattie Foley, both of Decatur.

Funeral services at the residence and Laurel M. E. Church; interment in Oak Ridge.
