He came to America with his parents when 8 years of age, locating in Pennsylvania, later moving to Osage County. On April 14th, 1902, he married Miss Eliza Graham, of Peterton. They moved the following year to Southeast Kansas. locating at Frontenac, where the family will continue to make their home.
Mr Hughes was a member of the U M W A and the A O U W lodges.
The funeral services at the home were in charge of the AOUW lodge of Frontenac.
MrHughes is survived by his wife, Eliza, two small sons, John and Earl and four daughters, Margurite, Naomi, Doris and Milly, his mother Mrs Margaret Hughes of Frontenac, Harry Hughes of Pennsylvania, Mrs Rebecca Murty of Frontenac, Mrs Maggie Murty of Peterton and Mrs Kate King of Peterton Kansas.
The remains were taken to Peterton where the funeral was held Wednesday, August 18th. Burial in Osage City Cemetery.
