Succumbs to Heart Disease While Dining at Pfizer Hotel--Former Resident and Brother of James Hughes of This City--Funeral Tomorrow.
Rev. Phelim F. Hughes, pastor of the Holy Assumption church, St. Martin's, Milwaukee county, and a brother of James Hughes of this city, died suddenly Wednesday night while dining in the Hotel Pfizer Turkish bath rooms, of heart dilation. The funeral services will be held in his church tomorrow morning at 9:30 o'clock and a number of relatives and friends from this city and Cascade, his old home, will attend. Fr. Hughes was born near Cascade, this county, 48 years ago and received a common school education in this county. Later he went to St. Francis seminary and was admitted to the priesthood at Dubuque IA. He was assistant pastor at Madison for a number of years, and for the past 9 years had been in charge of the parish at St. Martin's. He was in charge of St. Mary's church in the town of Greenfield, Milwaukee county, and St. Joseph's church, town of Muskego for some time. The many friends of Rev. Hughes will be pained to learn of his untimely death. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John Gannon of Greenish and Mrs. Thomas Mangan of Mitchell and two brothers, James of this city, who is engaged in the marble business and Judge Martin Hughes of Hibbing MN.
