Karen passed away Tuesday morning July 1, 2014 at the age of 73 years at Huron Woods Nursing Center in Kawkawlin, Michigan. She was born May 9, 1941 in Marine City, Michigan has resided in Bay City for many years. She was formerly employed at Bay Metro Transit Co. as a bus aid and was a home health care worker.

Left behind to cherish her memories are two daughters and one son-in-law; Kimberly and Jesse LaForest and Julie Lopez, seven grandchildren; Jeremy LaForest, Angela LaForest Spencer and her husband Donald Spencer, Gerrit LaForest, Shawn Steinecke, Brandon Steinecke, Gabriel Lopez and Justin Lopez, two great grandchildren; Landon LaForest and Collin Spencer and the family is expecting a great granddaughter in August, all of Bay City. Karen is also survived by her mother; Audrey Anna Huggard of Alabama, her brothers and sisters; Larry Huggard of Tennessee, Denny Huggard of Michigan, Loretta Huggard Chittum and her husband Donald Chittum of Colorado and Lynne Huggard DeFauw and her husband Todd DeFauw of Alabama and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; Lawrence Huggard, one son-in-law; Albert Lopez, one brother and sister-in-law; William Huggard and his wife Sally Inman, one sister and one brother-in-law; Ida Mae Huggard Neview and her husband Edward Neview.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff and nurses at Huron Woods Nursing Center and DaVita Dialysis Center for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Karen during the time they cared for her.

Funeral Services will take place Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc.. Officiating will be Rev. William H. Allwardt with interment following in Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Kawkawlin, Michigan. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. and until the time of service.
