Verona Huffman was born in Virginia. As an 8 year-old girl, she moved with her family in a wagon to Wellsville in Montgomery County, Missouri where the family took up farming. Her obituary reports that she attended the "Danville Girl's College" in the county seat of Montgomery county. The school was said to be the first of its kind west of the Mississippi and taught a wide range of subjects. One of its buildings is still there and visible to the north of I70.
The Civil War encroached on the Huffmans in Wellsville, so they moved to another farm in northern St Louis county. Here, shortly after the Civil War, she met and married a recently discharged Union soldier from Maryland. They began their life on a farm 4 miles northeast of her parent's farm. They had at least 6 children.
In 1893, the Bosleys moved to a much larger farm 4 miles west of Montgomery City in the county of the same name. Here, they were again quite successful.
