Mary Bess Hudson Alls, 99, of Lubbock passed away peacefully in her sleep August 16, 2008. She was two months shy of 100 years old.
Visitation time is Tuesday, August 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Rix Funeral Directors, on Broadway. The funeral service will be conducted by Richard Bloodworth with David Layman assisting in W.W. Rix Chapel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20. Interment will immediately follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery.
A devout Christian, Bess was for various lengths of time a member of the Broadway Church of Christ, various Churches of Christ in Colorado and Wyoming, the Woods Street Church of Christ in Sherman, and presently the Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock.
She was married to James Franklin Alls in 1930. They had two children: a son, James Richard of Lubbock, and a daughter, Linda Earle Bloodworth of Colorado City, Colo.
Bess was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Annie Mae Pirtle, Velma Boyd, Sallilee Gillum, Gladys Warren; a brother, John Percy Hudson; and two nephews, Beryl Pirtle and Edelle Pirtle.
She is survived by her son, James and wife Nancy; daughter, Linda and husband Edward Bloodworth; grandsons, Steven Bloodworth of Houston; and Richard Bloodworth and wife Carolyn of Happy; granddaughters, Nancy Schmelzer and husband Kurt of Pueblo, Colo.; Judy Galli of Houston; and Jana Layman and husband David of Clear Lake; one great-grandson; four great-granddaughters; five nieces and three nephews.
