Marion Joseph Hudson, 91, of Fort Worth, died Friday, October 10, 2008, at a hospital in Fort Worth. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 13, at the funeral home.
Marion was born in Rome, Georgia, to the late Marvin and Louise Westmoreland Hudson. At an early age, his family moved to Texarkana, Texas, and he attended schools there. He graduated with a BBA from Baylor University in 1938, and an MBA from Arizona State University. He had retired as a Coordinator of Distribution Education and community college teacher in Tucson, Ariz. During the 30 years he and his family lived in Arizona, his community activities included serving on a school board, as a Lieutenant in the Arizona Highway Patrol Reserve, and a church choir director.
After retiring and moving to Waco in 1985, he was active in the Sanctuary and Senior Adult Choirs, the Orchestra and a member of Dr. Cresson's Sunday School Class of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He played trumpet in the Waco Community Band and was a charter member of the Baylor Alumni Band. He was a Volunteer at the Pioneer Village of Strecker Museum and was a member of the Baylor Golden Heritage Club and served as president of the Central Texas Heritage Club. He was on the board of trustees for the American-Philippine Education Foundation.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, LaVerne Hall Hudson.
He is survived by sons, Richard and wife, Nancy, of San Jose, Calif., and Steve and wife, Caroline, of Fairfax, Va.; daughter, Susan Huey and husband, Jim, of Fort Worth: grandchildren, David Hudson, Sharon Hudson Dunham, Joe Hudson, Stephanie Hudson, Trent Huey and Natalie Huey Riley; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Eloise Gibson.
