She was born on November 21, 1923, in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, to Dr. J. Manning Hudson and Norma Dunn Hudson and grew up in New Albany, Mississippi. She graduated from Blue Mountain College; after which she met and married Doc Cowan of Shelby, Mississippi. They had three children, Carolyn, Claire, and George. They lived for 8 years in Maracaibo, Venezuela, after which they returned to Houston, Texas, where she lived for the next 31 years, teaching junior high in the Spring Branch ISD for 21 years of those years. She was a congregant of the Chapelwood Methodist Church. Norma spent the years after 1998 in California, where she lived close to Claire and her family. Norma is survived by her sister Carolyn Hudson Harrison, of Milan, Tennessee; her children Carolyn Cowan, of Concrete, Washington, Claire Cowan Fredette (Gerry), of Granite Bay, California, and George Cowan (Lin), of Hong Kong; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
