PAWLET - Helen Cleveland, 95, died April 24, 2012, at Indian River Nursing Home.
She was born in Middletown Springs, Sept. 30, 1916, the daughter of Arthur and Espy (Edmunds) Hubbard.
She graduated as valedictorian in 1934 from Middletown Springs High School.
On Sept. 15, 1935, she married Warren Cleveland in Middletown Springs.
Mrs. Cleveland was a member of New Horizons Pomona Grange #33, Pawlet Library, Adonrram Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #22, Home Dem, PTA and Historical Society, and a charter member of the Green Mountain Seniors.
She was honored as the Pawlet Citizen of the Year.
She enjoyed acting in community theater groups, traveling, playing cards, needlework and crafts. She was known for paperhanging and sewing, including making the Boy Scouts' Green Mountain Boy uniforms for the 1961 Bicentennial.
Survivors include five children, Walter, Arthur, Edgar, Dawn Clark and Ruth Hathaway, all of Pawlet; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1961 and a brother, Richard, in 1977.
The funeral service will be held at noon Friday, April 27, at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, N.Y., where friends may call from 11 a.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. John Sanborn of Pawlet Community Church.
Burial will be in Northeast Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pawlet Church Building Fund, Mettowee Cemetery Chapel Fund or Granville Rescue Squad.
