Faye Hubbard died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 88 years old. She was born October 29, 1924 in Buffalo Springs, Texas to Ida Belle Langston and Simon Young Fergueson. She was the youngest of three brothers (Lewis, Howard and Jim who have preceded her in death) and one sister. Faye married H.L. Hubbard in 1945 in Hico, Texas. They had three children, LaQuita Lanell (Nauert), Richard Dawson Hubbard and Sherry Elaine (Schumann). Faye and H.L. divorced in 1969. In 1971, Faye met Robert T. Gage (Bob) and had a wonderful relationship for the next 31 years. Faye cared for Bob at her home for several months before his death on November 21, 2002. Faye's independent, driven, self-sufficient personality allowed her to be a very diversified person. She was a nurse aide, a factory seamstress, a beautician and a sales clerk. She attended Waco Beauty College, graduating in 1958 and practiced as a licensed cosmetologist as the family moved from Waco (1958) to Temple (1958-1960) and from there to Austin (1961-2013.) She practiced with Doreen Balke at a beauty shop on Parkcrest and 2222; then opened her own shop on Greenlawn at Burnet Road before opening a shop in her home on Croslin Street in 1971. She closed her home beauty shop in 1982 and began her retail career. She worked at Longhorn Western Wear, Sheplers, Abel Stationers, Office Max and Hobby Lobby- Anderson Lane. Faye retired in January 2011 at the age of 86 years. Her desire to continue working was there, but her dementia prevented the organized schedule she was used to for her entire adult life. After retirement, Faye focused on her quilting, embroidery and other craft projects which included her famous "microwave potato bags." She was also an avid gardener (she could plant a stick in the ground and it would grow) and bird watcher. Faye is survived by her children, LaQuita, Dawson and Sherry, nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mae Towrey of Abilene, Texas. Last but not least, her two canine companions, Emo and Kaylo. Appreciation is sent to the employees of Arden Courts of Austin and Park Bend Health Center for assisting Faye with quality of life during her time with them. Honoring Faye's wishes, there will not be a memorial or funeral service. Faye lived a vibrant and active life, her wishes were for each of us to share thoughts and moments of our lives with her with our families and friends and to remind us to live life to the fullest.
