Fred Avery Hubbard Fred Avery Hubbard, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Round Rock, Friday, April 15, 2005.
He was born in Temple, Texas, on April 5, 1913, the oldest son of Mayme Katherine Wade and Alexander Hamilton Hubbard.
After graduating from Temple High School and Temple Junior College, he enrolled in Texas A&M College in 1933. He received his commission as 1st Lt., 8th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division, graduating with a B.A. in business. Fred was introduced to Ruth Burns in his freshman year, and they were married upon his graduation.
He began his military career in 1940. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service as a Major during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, Australia, the Admiralty Islands, and the Philippines. He also wore the Combat Infantryman's badge, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbon with four bronze stars and a bronze arrowhead, and the Philippine Liberation ribbon with two bronze stars and oak leaf clusters. In 1946, he served three years in Germany as military mayor of Buchen, Germany, restoring order and civilian services to the city. He was honorably discharged in 1950 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
In 1978, Mr. Hubbard retired as Supervising Senior Auditor from the Texas Education Agency in Austin at 65 years of age.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth B. Hubbard; his daughters: Nancy Kay Winter and husband Harlen, and Linda Jo Hubbard; and his son, Fred A. Hubbard, II and his wife, Wyone. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Marci Smith, Fred A. Hubbard, III, Amara Winter and Tanya Winter; two great-grandchilden, Shane Aaron and William Lee, along with other relatives.
The family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m., followed by funeral services at 3:30 Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Memorial Chapel of Cook- Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at Cook- Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
