HOUSTON - Evalyn Hubbard Cates went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, Oct. 16, 2007.

She was born in Van Zandt County on March 27, 1909, to Henry David and Amanda Williams Hubbard, and lived to be 98 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, and her parents and 12 brothers and sisters.

Eva attended schools in Jackson and Payne Springs, as well as North Texas and East Texas State Colleges.

On Dec. 26, 1931, Eva married Dewey Barron Cates, and to this union were born three daughters. She was preceded in death by Dewey in 1987, and now they are together.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Grand International Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. She was also a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Tyler and Jersey Village Baptist Church of Houston.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty Cates Robertson of Los Alamos, N.M., Mary Cates Cooper and Wanda Cates Lambert, both of Houston; sons-in-law, Charles Robertson and Larry Cooper; and grandchildren, Denise Tellier, Bruce Robertson, Cara Sessions, Mindy Lynch, Lance Cooper, Carol Hewey and Charles Lambert. She also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, Jenna and Aimee Tellier, Charles and Krista Robertson, Julie, Jordan and Jenny Sessions, Colin Lynch, Hannah Cooper and Josuah Hewey. She is also survived by two great-great-grandchildren, Blake and Mallory Robertson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her great joy was spending time with and helping her family. She enjoyed making many beautiful handmade items and every grandchild had one of her quilts. She enjoyed playing "42" with friends, gardening, sewing and reading. She was a gracious lady to all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive visitors at the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the New Harmony Baptist Church on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Johnny Beard and Rev. Robbie Caldwell officiating. Burial at New Harmony Cemetery following the service, under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors in Lindale.
