The funeral for Donald M. Hubbard, 89, Chambersburg, Pa., formerly of Canton, is at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Lawrence Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro officiating. Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery. He died Wednesday February 25, 2009 at Manor Care Health Services in Chambersburg.

Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was a pharmacist at a number of pharmacies, including Hubbard's Pharmacy in Port Leyden; Harold Allen Pharmacy in Lowville; Walter E. Russell Pharmacy in Canton; and briefly at Rite Aid Pharmacy and Kinney Drugs, both in Canton.

He was a member of the Rho Chi Pharmaceutical Honorary Society and the New York State Pharmaceutical Association. He served as Leyden town clerk from 1954 to 1961 and was on the board of education for Port Leyden Central School. He also served as clerk of session for First Presbyterian Church in Canton.

He enjoyed tennis, boating, recreational vehicles, playing piano, organ, and percussion instruments and singing in the Oakwood Estates Community Band.

Born March 25, 1919, in Port Leyden, son of Foster S. and Lucille Petrie Hubbard, he graduated from Port Leyden Central School in 1936, from Lowville Academy in 1937 and from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy in 1941. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 as a first lieutenant in the medical administrative corps during World War II. He married Winona Comer on Oct. 14, 1945, in Joplin, Mo.

Surviving besides his wife, of Chambersburg, are three daughters, W. Sue Broderick, Hendersonville, N.C., Deborah K. Maier, Dardenne Prairie, Mo., and Bethany J. Wohlgemuth, Ijamsville, Md.; a son, Bruce C., Caledonia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A granddaughter died before him.
