Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. A graduate of Princton University and pre-war lawyer, he entered his Civil War service as 1st Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster for the 37th New York Volunteer Infantry. He remained in the Regular Army after the conflict, retiring with the rank of Major in 1889. He died at the age of 72 in San Remo, Italy in 1897. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
