OBITUARY - ADELAIDE GRACE WOLFF LIVIX HOXSIE
SEPTEMBER 22, 1972 - OCTOBER 29, 1955
Adelaide Grace "Addie" Wolff Livix Hoxsie, age 83, of 509 W. Madison, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa died at the home of her daughter, Ruth Wolff Bates from a myocardial infarction (heart attack). Addie had been a resident of Mt. Pleasant for over 40 years. Funeral services were held at the Crane Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Dr. James W. Martin, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa
She was survived by four daughter; Mrs. Lloyd (Elsie) Wolff Rickey, Joliet, IL, Mrs. John (Ruby) Wolff Vaughan, Elmwood IL, Mrs. Howard (Amantha) Wolff Armstrong, Monmouth, IL, and Mrs. Dillon (Ruth) Wolff Bates, Mt Pleasant IA; one son, Homer Wolff, Jacksonville FL; a brother Henry Ericson, Mt Pleasant IA; a half-sister Louise Ericson Leach, Long Beach,CA; a half-brother, Ben Erickson, Des Moines IA.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Augusta Hedlund Ericson in 1876, her father Charles Ericson in 1924, her step-mother Anna Carlson Ericson in 1926, a sister, Frances Gertrude who died as an infant in 1901, a sister Emma Ericson Crist in 1948; a brother, Harvey Wolff in 1953.
BIOGRAPHY - ADELAIDE GRACE ERICSON WOLFF LIVIX HOXSIE
Adelaide "Addie" Grace Ericson, the second child of Charles Albert & Augusta Hedlund Ericson, was born on Sep 22, 1872 at Gladstone, Illinois. Addie moved to Axtell, Neb with her parents in about 1876 where she attended school #44 and grew to womanhood. On Aug 26, 1892, Addie married John Newton Wolff at Kearney County, Nebraska. John, the son of a Presbyterian Minister, was born on July 4, 1860 in West Virginia. In about 1891 or 1892 John and Addie moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. John had a law degree and worked as a District Attorney, a bridge building supervisor and as a printer. John had an office in Omaha, Nebraska. Addie and John's five oldest children, Homer Clarence, Harvey Raymond, Elsie Arbelon, Frances Gertrude and Anna Amantha were born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In about 1905, because of John's health, the family moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma so that John could have hot springs treatments. Ruby Jewel Wolff was born at Stilwell. Then the family moved to Westville, Okla where John published the local newspaper and where Ruth Martha Wolff was born. The family then moved by horse team to live briefly at Kentwood, Louisiana. John published newspapers in Westville, Oklahoma and at Kentwood, Louisiana. John Wolff, age 56, died on April 9, 1916 from a heart attack at Kentwood, Louisiana and was buried at Tangipahoa Cemetery in Kentwood. Following the death of John in 1916, Addie moved her family back to Mt. Pleasant. On March 29, 1919, Addie Ericson Wolff married John Livix at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. John Livix, the son of Samuel and Lydia A. Baldosier Livix, was born in about 1865. This was the second marriage for both John Livix and Addie Ericson Wolff. John and Addie were later divorced (date unknown). On May 3, 1923, Addie Ericson Wolff Livix was remarried to John Livix in the parsonage of the First Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. The Rev Wilbur R. Keesey performed the ceremony. They were attended by Addie's brother Henry and Henry's wife Lillian Lloyd Ericson. Addie and John were divorced a second time (date unknown). There were no children by this marriage. On Nov 7, 1931, Addie Ericson Wolff Livix was married for the fourth time, in a single-ring service, to William Hoxsie at Monmouth, Illinois in the Methodist parsonage by Rev Lyle Thompson. (one of the witnesses was Addie's son, Harvey Wolff of Monmouth). William was from Marshalltown, Iowa. Bill and Addie would live at 509 W. Madison St in Mt. Pleasaant. They were later divorced. William Hoxie, a Spanish American War Veteran, Age 66, of Mt. Pleasant, died at the Soldiers Hospital in Marshalltowon, Iowa and was buried with full military honors at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
