Gertrue L. Antczak, 88, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at BryanLGH West in Lincoln, surrounded by her loving family. Gertrue was born Dec. 5, 1921, at Chadron to Ernest and Lucinda (Goodner) Howland.
She married Walter Antczak on May 15, 1940. He preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 1979.
Survivors are: her children and their spouses, Wally and Judy Antczak of Lincoln, Larry and Gale Antczak of Aurora, Colo., Judy and Nicky Necklace of Kenesaw; brothers, Larry Howland of Thornton, Colo., and Johnny Howland of California; and a sister, Shirley Shelton of Central City; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and her dear friend, Opal Friend of Lincoln as well as a host of friends and relatives.
She was welcomed into heaven by her husband; parents; sisters, Vivian and Anna Marie; and brothers, Herman, Richard and Jack.
Gertrue was raised in Omaha, graduating from Omaha South High School. She worked at department stores, retiring from Miller and Paine. She and Walt lived in Omaha and McCook before moving to Grand Island in 1950.
She was an avid reader, was an accomplished china painter, enjoyed oil painting and loved her flowers. Most of all, Gertrue enjoyed her time with her family, especially the little ones.
