Corliss "Corky" Howard, age 70, of Dumfries died Oct. 18, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Shirley Howard; his loving sons, Douglas Howard of Spotsylvania and Patrick Howard of Ashburn; his three grandchildren, Ian, Kirstyn and Sean Howard all of Spotsylvania; his brother, Robert Howard of Athens, Pa.; and several nephews. Mr. Howard was a long time resident of Lake Ridge, having recently moved to Dumfries. He served 30 years with the United States Army assigned to the Corps of Engineers and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. During his career in the Army, he attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four and was the recipient of the Legion of Merit award, two Bronze Stars and numerous other awards for outstanding service to his country. Friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 12:30 p.m. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Arlington National Cemetery.
