Myrtle was the oldest child of Bertha and Romey Houck. She married J.D. Wilson on 18 April 1929. They had difficulties and separated in 1940. The divorce became final on 11 January, 1947. Myrtle lived with her parents after her divorce and helped care for them until their deaths.

She never remarried and had no children of her own but cherished her nieces, nephews, and grand nieces.

Myrtle is best remembered as salesperson in Burand's (a local clothing store) ladies wear. She was a Sunday School teacher for many, many years, and always loved her church children.

Myrtle always gave people two very precious gifts: her time and her attention. It didn't matter whether you were young or old, or from what walk of life; she was there for you. She loved people, she loved life.

She even saw her last trip to the hospital as an adventure. She was to have a pacemaker put in, and as she had never had surgery before, she saw this as a new challenge to face. Unfortunately, her heart was too weak to meet the challenge. She died peacefully while her brother-in-law was sitting at her bedside.
