June Shirley Von Ignatius of Port Jervis, a retired elementary teacher and lifetime resident of Port Jervis, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at St. Joseph's Place, Port Jervis. She was 75.

The daughter of the late John and Olive Decker Hosking, she was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Port Jervis. She was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church, Port Jervis, where she was the church historian, served as an Elder, and was in the church choir and the Presby Players; member of the Business & Professional Women of Port Jervis, where she was the Woman of the Year in 2000; Port Jervis Historical Society; Port Jervis Music Study Club; and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a Trustee at the Port Jervis Free Library and a Literacy Volunteer of America. She retired in 1987 as an elementary teacher for Minisink Valley Central School, South Centerville.

A family statement read, "Shirley was a genuine citizen of Port Jervis, spending her entire life contributing to the town she loved. She lived the golden rule, loved her family, loved to learn, read and teach. Her kindness and willingness to help others shall be long remembered."

Survivors include her husband, Walter L. Von Ignatius Sr., at home; one son, Walter L. "Terry" Von Ignatius Jr. and his wife Nancy of Matamoras, Pa; one daughter, Sharon A. Henion and her husband Clem of Woodstock, Ga; two sisters, Natalie Miller of Dublin, Ohio and Frances Olver of Matamoras, Pa; four grandchildren, Karolyn Piatt of Montague, N.J., Walter T. Von Ignatius of Matamoras, Pa., Virginia Hartigan of Norton, Mass. and Joanna Husson of New Brunswick, N.J.; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Rose Piatt; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Spring in the Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville.
