Evelyn H. Angus, 80, of Coal Valley, formerly of Angelus Retirement Center at North Hill, East Moline, and Belleville, Ill., passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, from renal failure.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Mrs. Angus will be laid to rest with her deceased husband at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, in a private service. Memorials may be made in her honor to Pathway Hospice of the Trinity Visiting Nurse & Homemaker Association, Rock Island, or Heartland Heath Care Center, Moline.

She was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Nashville, Tenn.

A World War II bride, she married her late husband, Chief Master Sgt. Harry W. Angus II on Nov. 17, 1943, in Colfax, La., just days before he and his crew left for England. She was a devoted mother through her husband's 25 1/2 years of faithful service through World War II, including his 15-month internment as a prisoner of war in Germany, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, enduring many separations and permanent changes of station throughout the United States.

Mrs. Angus retired in August 1987 from federal civil service as the Chief, Editing Branch, Publications Division, Directorate of Administration, Military Airlift Command Headquarters, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. She was awarded the Department of the Air Force Outstanding Civilian Service Award upon her retirement for her 20-plus years of faithful service. She was previously employed by the Juvenile Courts of Macon, Ga., General Mills, Honolulu, Hawaii, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Mrs. Angus was an avid gardener, reader of mysteries, seamstress and needle-worker. She loved animals, especially dogs and cats, and made significant contributions to organizations dedicated to the humane treatment of those animals, as well as protectors of our environment.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Judy (Willie P.) Gibson, Charlotte, N.C.; her loving son, Bruce (Mazie) Angus, Coal Valley; four granddaughters, Julie (Kevin) Hood, Fort Mill, S.C., Trina (Chuck) Dotson, Charlotte, Angela Watkins, Fargo, N.D., and Wendy Cole, Ionia, Mich.; six great-grandchildren, Collin, Kaitlyn, Samantha and Connor Watkins and Cheyenne and Dylan Cole; a brother-in-law, Robert A. Delhauer; nephews, Mark (Patricia) Delhauer and Paul (Ellen) Delhauer; a niece, Rebecca (Scott) Maxon; six great-nephews and -nieces, Eric, Sara, Matthew, Micah, Laura and James Delhauer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chief Master Sgt. Harry W. Angus II, United States Air Force (Retired); parents, Samuel Q. and Mildred E. Horton; a sister, Sarah E. Delhauer; and a great-grandson, Austin Watkins.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
