dau of Benjamin Franklin HORTON and Mary Frances TERRY, m John Albert GOLDSMITH

On Tuesday, June 8, at 2:30 PM, funeral services were held in DeFriest Funeral Home, for Mrs Hettie E Goldsmith, who passed away June 5, after a brief illness. The services were conducted by Rev Sabin of the Southold Methodist Church.

Mrs Goldsmith was born June 2, 1861, the only daughter of B Franklin Horton and Mary Frances Horton of Cutchogue. Her brothers were the late Bennie C Horton of Southold and Frank T Horton of Mattituck. On March 10, 1887, she married J Albert Goldsmith, also of Cutchogue. After her marriage, they made their home in Southold, where on March 10, 1937, they celebrated their Golden Wedding.

Mrs Goldsmith is survived by a daughter, Frances Fickeissen, of Bridgehampton, and two sons, Henry A Goldsmith and Everett T Goldsmith, both of Southold; nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Southold Methodist Church, and was also deeply interested in a radio program, "The Gospel Hour". Through this program she gained many friends to whom she became known as "Mother Goldsmith". Though preferring in her later years to remain quietly at home, she wrote countless letters to our boys in service, and her notes and cards carried a cheering message to many a sick or sorrowing friend. She was a devoted wife till the death of her husband September 8, 1937, and a loving and devoted mother always.
