Calvin Grason Horney Sr., 80, of Easton, died June 16 at Memorial Hospital in Easton.
Born in Grasonville on May 8, 1924, Mr. Horney graduated from Stevensville High school where he also taught woodworking. Later, he worked as a herdsman at Blakeford Farm and as a waterman until the mid-1950s when he began his career in the insurance business.
He worked with People's Insurance, which later became Monumental Life Insurance, for 30 years in Chestertown.
He was a member of the Bay Country Moose in Queenstown and the Sail and Trail Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and trained beagles for championship field trials.
He was married to Mildred Ester Hoxter, who died in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Caldwell Horney whom he married in 1978; two sons, Calvin G. Horney Jr. of Easton and Michael Edwin Horney of Goldsboro; four daughters, Esther Lynn Baxter of Grasonville, Diane Lane Tarr of Easton, Pamela S. Haschert of Stevensville and Teresa Ann Prickett of Centreville; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Bonnie Michele Horney and the brother of the late Harold, Alvin and the Rev. Edwin Horney.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ridgely United Methodist Church in Ridgely with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 E. Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85718-3208.
