who was"born in Ireland: about 1771, and "landed in America at the age of 18, with only 50 cents." He didn't fly but first recorded location is Allegheny County, PA. This is from a statement in a deed to land he purchased in Weathersfield Tp. near Niles in Trumbull County, Ohio. The land is adajacent to and on the north side of the Mahoning River, the deed thereto being dated 1815. This included 82 acres, 99 rods. An 1825 transaction added 9 acres, 42 rods, while a third deed in 1832 produced 104 acres and l6 rods.
History of Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, Cleveland, H. Z. Williams & Bro., 1882 says: "about 1809 John Horner settled on the farm now owned by H. T. Mason." He would have been 38 years old in 1809. R.M.Horner in his ledger, "Genealogy of My Family, "Married Mrs. Elizabeth Sylvester (Elizabeth Black) as third wife. Was the father of Robert, David, Joseph, & Jane by third wife and of John and William by second wife. Was an inveterate chewer of tobacco.
