Eileen A. Robinson Hopkins, 85, of Cape St. Claire, died at home Sept. 24 after a brief battle with cancer.
Mrs. Hopkins, known affectionately as "Hoppy," was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Grafton, Ill., the daughter of the late William Harold Robinson and Freda Blanche Martin Robinson. On Jan. 25, 1932, she married Emory A. Hopkins. They built a summer house in Cape St. Claire in 1954 and moved there permanently in 1973.
Mrs. Hopkins worked for quite a few years in the Bladensburg High School cafeteria and was a supervisor of elections in Anne Arundel County.
She was a member of the American Dahlia Society and for many years she exhibited and judged dahlias, along with helping 4-H groups with dahlia growing.
She was instrumental in forming the Cape St. Claire Garden Club and was its current president. In 1999 she was the Cape St. Claire Strawberry Queen. Mrs. Hopkins also was known as "The Jelly Lady" by those who were the recipients of her homemade jelly.
Surviving are her husband of 69 years; three sons, William H. Hopkins of Lusby, the Rev. Kenneth D. Hopkins of Burlington, N.C., and Richard D. Hopkins of Annapolis; one daughter, Dianna Hopkins of Cape St. Claire; one niece whom she raised, Willie Harig, of Everett, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church, Chestnut Tree and Summit drives.
