Darius A. Hopkins June 20, 1925 - June 13, 2011 - Darius A. "Hoppy" Hopkins, 85, retired East Killingly Fire Chief, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. His wife, M. Eunice (Lusignan) Hopkins, died in 1999. He was predeceased by two sisters,Virginia Fleury and Alice Pepin. Darius was born in Providence, RI, on June 20, 1925, son of the late Ardell and Marion Hopkins. He served with the Dayville and East Killingly Fire Departments beginning in 1942 and retired as chief of East Killingly Fire Dept. in 1992. Having retired, he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife and made his home in Avon Park, Florida until 1999. His last employment was with the Killingly Public Schools, where he retired in 2010. In Celebration of Hoppy's life, a funeral will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011, with a Mass at 10 A.M. in Saint Joseph Church, Hartford Pike, Dayville. The family will receive guests beginning at 9 A.M. in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the East Killingly Fire Department, 1395 Hartford Pike, East Killingly, CT 06243. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St.,Webster, is directing arrangements.
