Birth: 1828
Death: 1882

Margaret "Jane" (Hope) Booker was the daughter of James Hope and his third wife Aletha H. Sorrels. She was born in Austin's Colony in Texas about 1829 and married Ferdinand Caldwell Booker 21 Sep 1843 in Houston, Harris Co., Texas. Margaret and Ferdinand had the following children: Edward Ferdinand Booker, Samuel Jacob Booker, Sarah Jane Booker, Martha Mary Booker, Elizabeth Booker, and Mary Coritha Booker.

Jane Hope was living with her widowed mother in the home of Captain and Mrs. James Butler Hogan of Houston, Texas when she was married to Ferdinand C. Booker in the Hogan House. They had six children. Ferdinand went off to war and everyone thought he died in the war as he didn't come home to his wife. He died later however in Clayton, Indiana in 1887. The family found out when Edward (his son) had to pay his burial bill.

Jane wrote the following letter to her son, typed as written. It is a very sad latter.

Richmond March 3 1882
