Guy P. Hoover, 98, formerly of R.R. 1, Box 351, Mount Union, died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, at Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, where he had been residing. Born April 30, 1898, at Hesston, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late J. Elmer and Catharine (Gorndon) Hoover. He was married to the former Bertha R. Savits, who died Sept. 16, 1978. Surviving are four children: Donald P. Hoover of Reedsville; Christie Hoover, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown; Mrs. Dorothy Briggs, Mount Union R.D. 1; and Gilbert Hoover, Belleville; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Hoover had engaged in farming for many years until his retirement. He also was retired as caretaker of Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Ross L. Booth Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Myrna Y. Speck officiating. The interment service, at Newton Hamilton Memorial Cemetery, Newton Hamilton, will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. The family will take care of flowers themselves.
