Edward LeRoy Honey, son of Andrew J. and Etta Honey, was born at Blair, Nebraska on March 3, 1882 and completed his earthly sojurn at the Holton Hospital where he had been a patient for about six weeks on February 24, 1968, only a week before his 86th birthday.
Mr. Honey was educated in the schools of Carroll, Nebraska, and there he courted and married his wife, Luella Mick on October 12, 1904. Shortly after the marriage, Ed and Luella, along with another couple who had been united in marriage at the same time in a double ceremony, moved to Carson, North Dakota, where they homesteaded. It was here that their two children, Don and Naomi, were born.
Near the end of World War I the family returned to Carroll. In 1922 the moved to Holton, Kansas, where Mr. Honey lived the remainder of his life, making a living for his family as a carpenter and mechanic. In this community he was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 34 and the First Methodist Church. He was strong and active physically and enjoyed excellent health until just the last few weeks when for the first time in his life he entered the hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Luella; one son, Donald W. of Holton; a daughter, Mrs. Naomi Bockhouse of East Moline, Illinois; one grandson, George E. Bockhouse of Silvas, Illinois; an older sister, Mrs. Ella Mossman of Creighton, Nebraska; a younger brother, Herbert H. Honey of San Diego, California and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held at the Mercer Funeral Home on February 26 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Don Hammerli officiated. Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Dean Stous. Pallbearers were Warren Baum, Paul Bohannon, Eugene Fernkopf, Andrew Riederer, Lawrence Slimmer, and Mike Pelton.
An I.O.O.F. service was conducted at the cemetery. Interment was in the Holton cemetery.
