Oldest of 3 daughters, 2nd oldest of 6 children born to Elva Honaker (Adkins) and Hallie Honaker. Came to Washington state in the 1960's (with husband Lester McCoy, and toddler son Paul McCoy) for the World's Fair, which brought the promise of jobs to various industries. She began as a housekeeper for a Seattle hotel. Seeking a better life for her and her developmentally disabled son, she met Ted and they were married in Seattle. She worked as a Longshoreman for Salmon Terminal of Seattle (now Kent).
