Rita A. Cline, 87, of Madison, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at King's Daughters' Hospital.
She was born May 22, 1923, in Billings, Mont., and was raised in New Marion with her father and step mother, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Holzer. She graduated from New Marion High School where she was a cheerleader for four years. She was a member of the security department at the Jefferson Proving Ground during World War II. She followed her husband, retired Indiana State Police Colonel Robert Cline, to different duty stations around the state. While living in Richmond for 30 years, she participated in business and social activities. She was a top real estate saleswoman in Richmond and earned the nickname "Mayor" of the west side from her friends. She was a creator of stained-glass items, enjoyed fishing and shooting pistols and rifles. She was a member of the National Rifle Association. She and her husband moved to downtown Madison after they both retired. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, whom she married March 18, 1948; one daughter, Amanda Ferris of Greenfield; two step sisters, Rosella Holzer of Versailles and Marge Downer of Molt, Mont.; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was at the Lytle Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood.
