Mrs. Catherine Hollis "Her life was one of charity" Another of God's saints has passed to her reward in the person of Catherine Hollis, wife of Craven Peyton Hollis, pioneer preacher of this Northwest, the first pastor of Central Christian Church or Walla Walla, Wash. Catherine Stutesman was born in Driftwood Township, Indiana. Sept 1, 1840, and should she have lived until the first day of September this year, would have been 92 years old.
She was one of 11 children born to John and Eleanor Stutsman. Catherine early in her teens became a Christian, and her life has been one of loving service and self-sacrifice and charity; no one ever left her door without having been blessed and helped if it were in her power to do so.
At the age of 18 she became the wife of Brother Hollis and to them were born nine children, four of whom are still living. Mrs. Harriet Clodfelter, of Cascade Locks, Ore., Mrs. Eleanor O'Neil of Ilwaco Wash, Mrs Jess Lynch and Mrs Kate Hardy, both of Portland, Or.
Mrs. Hollis was left a widow, August. 28, 1899, when brother Hollis was called home to be with God. Since that time Sister Hollis has made her home with her daughters. She passed away April 18, at the home of Mrs. Clodfelter. Hers was a beautiful life.
Funeral services were held at the cemetery in Walla Walla.
