Diana Lynne Holliday

Death: Feb. 3, 1969

Born to Madeline and Louie Holliday, she was truely a gift from God. Madeline and Louie always wanted a 2nd child, Diana came later in life. At birth, Diana was diagnosed with CP. Diana was so truely loved by everyone she was able to touch in life. Her handicap required her to attend special schools with other special needs children. She never really missed going to public school as she loved all her special needs classmates. Her handicap was only physical, mentally she was exceptionally bright. All the teachers at school encouraged her to work one on one with the other children to help them learn. She would return home each day with so many stories, a smile was always on her face.

Diana had 3 nieces and 2 nephews that were very close in age so she was never at a loss for a playmate. Her nieces and nephews always thought of her as just another sister but would occationally tease her and call her "Aunt Diana". She would always laugh and tell all that since she was their "Aunt" they had to listen to her and mind!

Diana had a wonderful sense of humor and was always playing pranks on anyone she could. When she was 13 years old, she wrote a letter to a boy that was in the military. In this letter she confessed her love to him and told of her intentions on marrying him. She left the letter in a place her parents could find it. When they found the letter and read it, they were terrified. Their little girl professing love and plans of marriage to a boy much older than her. When she was questioned about this, she just smiled and admitted it was just another prank and she "Got" her parents yet again!

"Pepper" was a permenant fixture in her household. As soon as she got home from school she would take him to the park and walk and play with him. This was always a daily routine they both enjoyed so much.

During her 15th year, Diana suffered from major headaches. Her eyes were tested and determined there was nothing wrong. She was refered to a medical doctor and test began. The day the doctors broke the news to her parents and brother was the saddest day in her short life. Doctors diagnosed her with a malginant brain tumor. Her diagnosis nearly devistated her parents, she only had a short time to live. Diana loved life, her "kids" and teachers at school but most of all her dog "Pepper" and her family. She was admitted to the hospital shortly after the diagnosis. There was not much the doctors could do for her and her young life. Surgery was done in late Septemeber to relieve the pressure on her brain. Diana remained in the hospital until she begged to go home just for Christmas. She knew this would be her last Christmas spent with her family but it was very important to her. The doctors gave her a 24 hour pass but had to return to the hospital the next day. Her last Christmas was spent with her parents, brother and sister in law and her nieces and nephews. There was so much sadness surrounding that Christmas day but Diana encouraged all not to be sad and enjoy the day with her.

The very next day she returned to the hospital and remained there until February 3rd, 1969. Diana passed away surrounded by all who loved her. Although I was so very young when she died I can almost still hear her laughing and giggling. Her smile remains a bright memory in my mind and I will never forget the love she so freely gave to all who came in contact with her.
