James Cornelius Holland, a retired Spokane Daily Chronicle printer, died February 16, 1970 in Spokane WA. Born in Elkton, South Dakota on August 30, 1903 to John Francis & Mary Jane Cassidy Holland. He moved with his family when he was 8 years old to Saskatchewan Province, Canada and came to Spokane in 1919, when he was 16. He graduated from Gonzaga High School in Spokane, married Pauline "Peggy" Borbon of Wardner, Idaho on Nov. 24, 1927 in Colfax, WA.
In 1936, he went to work for the San Francisco newspapers, the Chronicle and Examiner for two years. He returned to Spokane and worked in job shops & for smaller papers, including the Desert Hotel chain. He joined the Spokane Chronicle in 1958 and worked there until he retired in 1968. He was a member of the Typographical Union. Survivors included his widow, Pauline L. Borbon Holland, daughter Joyce M. Holland Lower and three grandchildren.
Jay enjoyed bowling, fishing, raising budgies and was devoted to his family. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish and was buried from the church on February 19, 1970. Jay is buried next to his wife, Peggy in the Typographical Union Section of Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, WA.
