Mattie Pearl Holifield, the owner of Mattie's Restaurant One and Two, died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 68.
A native of Marion, Ala., she was a longtime resident of Mobile.
She graduated from Josephine Allen School and Carver State Technical College. She was employed by the former Mobile General Hospital as a dietician, Wilmer Hall School and Bessie C. Fonvielle Elementary School as a cafeteria manager, and Ingalls Shipyard as a first-class welder.
Survivors include four daughters, Lillian Lewis, Andretta Bennett, Michelle Gibbs and Latonza Bunn; two sons, Labarron Holifield and Johnnie Holifield; eight sisters, Eloise Munnerlyn, Charlie B. Hardin, Deborah Moore, Shirley Rivers, Melinda Holifield, Millie Holifield, Mary Holifield and Gollie Holifield; and three brothers, Charlie Holifield, Douglas Holifield and Michael Holifield, all of Mobile. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral at Ebenezer AME Church, 268 St. Charles Ave. Burial will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hodge's Chapel in Mobile.
