MONUMENT VALLEY, Utah — Services for Calvin Holiday Sr., 86, was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Main Street Chapel, Blanding, Utah. Burial followed at Blanding City Cemetery.
Holiday died June 2 in Chinle, Apache, AZ. He was born Jan. 1, 1915, in Kayenta, Navajo, AZ., area into the Ashi'hii'(Salt) clan for the Lok'a'a' (Reed)Dine'e Clan.
Holiday was a Navajo Code Talker during World War II. He was employed as an Uranium miner in Utah, A Social Worker with the State of Utah in Blanding serving the Navajos of San Juan County and as a Navajo Arts and Crafts Salesman in Monument Valley area.
Survivors include his wife;
Julia Crank Holiday of Monument Valley, UT;
Carl Holiday and Alvin Holiday, both of Monument Valley, UT, and Calvin Holiday Jr. of Phoenix, AZ.
Julene H. Price of Kayenta, AZ and Julie Anne Holiday, Darlene Holiday, Elaine Holiday and Carol Holiday, all of Monument Valley UT.
Tinna H. Willie of Rough Rock, AZ., Caroline H. Simpson of Blackfoot, ID, Alma J. Sutherland and June M. Wauneka, both of Cedar City, UT, Velma J. Perez of Las Vegas, NV, and Maeta J. Beck of American Fork, UT.
48 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Holiday was preceded in death by his father, Hastiin Hosnie;
Sisters - Patsy Bessie Holliday Hutchins, Suzy Browne; Brothers - Dick Hosnie, Dick John and John Steve
... one daughter and twin sons.
Pallbearers: Tano Haycock, Alvin Holiday, Harrison Hutchins, Michael Perez, Calvin Marshall Price, Corey Simpson, Devin Wauneka, and Spencer Willie.
