|Birth: ||Jul. 2, 1935|
|Death: ||Jun. 16, 2012|
Son of Eugene Edward Holcomb and Marjory Lee (Moore) Holcomb.
Ronald "Ron" Neilson Holcomb was born on July 2, 1935, in Gainesville, Texas, to Eugene and Marjorie. He left us peacefully on June 16, 2012.
Ron moved to California when he was about 5 years old and lived in towns such as Hollywood, Carpinteria, and El Monte. He attended El Monte High School. Ron joined the Air Force at 17, where he served honorably, stateside for four years until 1956. Upon returning home, he enrolled at Mt. San Antonio College where he met Zola Taber, whom he soon married.
The couple lived in different cities in Southern California, as well as Santa Maria on California's central coast. During this time, they established many longtime friends and had their five children. The family ultimately moved to Bakersfield in 1972, and soon after Ron began working for the Federal Government in the Engineering Division at Naval Petroleum Reserve Number One in Elk Hills, until his retirement in 1997. Ron did not slow down in retirement, as he was often seen assisting his children and grandchildren in various activities. Ron was always available to lend a helping hand and serve as a volunteer in his local community. The best example of this service was seen in every Boy Scout Troop to which his sons belonged. Locally, many years were devoted to Boy Scout Troop 427, even long after his last son was a member. Another great joy of Ron's was spending time working in his garden.
Ron is survived by his wife of 53 years, Zola; his sister, Marjeanne (Melvin Kendall); his children, Ronald (Dale), John (Laurie), Karolina (Mark Perry), Alice (Mike Abril), and David; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members he held very dear.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Riverlakes Community Church, 4301 Calloway Drive, Bakersfield, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to Riverlakes Community Church's Senior Fund.
