Bruce Paul Holbrook, 86, of Kingston, passed away Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, in University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville.
Born November 22, 1923, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., he was the youngest of five children of Walter Eugene Holbrook and Sarah Mae Billings Holbrook. He was recruited to work at K-25 Plant in Tennessee in 1944; he worked there as a chemical operator for 41 years. He enjoyed gardening, music and family times. He was a member of Kingston First Baptist Church. Many friends and relatives have maintained contact with him during his long struggle with Parkinson's disease.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jewell Dean Smothers Holbrook; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lora L. Holbrook, Knoxville, and Joyce and Ron Dickerson, Kingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Janet Holbrook, Knoxville; six grandchildren and their families, Jason Dickerson and special friend Amy Hibben, Brett and Paula Dickerson, Joanna Holbrook, Casey Holbrook, Suzanne Holbrook and Jared Holbrook; a great-grandson, Noah Dickerson; a brother, Elbert Holbrook, North Wilkesboro;
The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, in Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston. Funeral service followed in the chapel, with Sonny Works officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Kingston Memorial Gardens.
