Martha E. Black, 85, a resident of Green Ridge Village, Newville, formerly of Upper Strasburg, died Saturday, August 28, 2010, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

Born November 10, 1924, in McConnellsburg, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel McQuade Hohman.

She was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church, Shippensburg. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George M. Black Sr., who died January 15, 2005; a sister, Ruth Shives; and a brother, Melvin Hohman.

She is survived by four children: George M. Black Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Portal, Ga.; Delores J. Garman and her husband, Dwayne, of Waynesboro; Rev. Richard A. Black Sr. and his wife, Vicki of Newville, and Sherry D. Weist and her companion, Brian Barker, of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; two brothers: Hubert Hohman of Hustontown and Albert Hohman of Ft. Littleton; seven grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 1, 2010, in the Fogelsanger- Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg, at 11 a.m. Rev. Richard A. Black Sr., Rev. Richard A. Black Jr. and Rev. John W. Runshaw officiated. Burial was in Lurgan Cemetery.
