— Sharon Alonso, 64, of Huron, S.D., formerly of Minden, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, in Kearney.
Services were held Friday at Minden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dillon Hess officiating.
A memorial service was held Monday at Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron with the Rev. Iva Laudermith officiating.
She was born Nov. 16, 1940, in Fremont, to Kenneth and Gladys (Beall) Hoffman.
She married Sergio Alonso in Uruguay.
Survivors include her son, Gregory of Bellevue; brother, Rodney Hoffman of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; and sister, Ardyce Jensen of Huron.
Additional survivors include Gregory's fiancée, Kathleen Shurtlif of Bellevue; sister-in-law, Betty Hoffman of Wheat Ridge; and grandchild, Jorgina Alonso.
She grew up in Minden and graduated from Minden High School. She received her bachelor's degree at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., and her master's degree from Kearney State College.
She taught music at the Canden Institute in Uruguay.
She taught primarily Spanish for more than 30 years in the Minden and Axtell school districts. After retirement, she lived in Germany for two years before moving to Huron.
She was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron and was a former member of the Minden United Methodist Church. Since 1987, she had been active in the Emmaus Community in Nebraska and South Dakota. She was a district officer of the United Methodist Women in South Dakota and a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
