The Kingsley News Times, 9 April 1953, page 1: Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon, April 6th, at the Kingsley Methodist church for Mrs. May Barwick, who died Friday in a Sioux City hospital Rev C.C. Callahan, of Benton, Iowa, former pastor tor at Washta, officiated. Burial was in the Kingsley cemetery under the direction of the Dickison Funeral Home. May Hoffman, daughter of Phillip and Jennie Hoffman, was born June 29, 1894, in Grand Meadow township. She passed away at 5:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 1953, at a Sioux City hospital, at the age of 59 years. Mrs. Barwick entered the hospital March 30th and succumbed following a short illness. She had been suffering from arthritis for the past seventeen years. Her early life was spent in Grand Meadow and she attended school at Pierson and Kingsley, graduating from Pierson high school Following her graduation she also taught school in the Grand Meadow Community. On March 1, 1916 she was united in marriage to Clarence W Barwick,at Sioux City, and they resided on a farm in Grand Meadow. In March 1917 they moved to a farm near Clark, South Dakota, which was their home for sixteen years, until the family moved back to their present farmstead in 1933. To this union two sons were born, Clarence J. and Verle E. Mrs. Barwick was a kind, loving wife and mother, and always thought of her family and others first, even through her many years of sickness. Survivors include her husband, Clarence Barwick; to sons, Clarence J. and Verle E., both of Pierson, four grandchildren, Sharon, Steven, Sidney and Eugene Barwick; one brother, Ralph Hoffman of Cherokee; one sister, Mrs. Grace Luce of Glendale, California; an aunt, Mrs. T.E. Leonard of Wessington Springs, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.
