A Mass for Jack will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 3, at Mission San Luis Obispo.
Jack was born in San Francisco on March 17, 1925, and graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco. He started work at age 12 as a grocery clerk in San Francisco and spent his summers in Boulder Creek as a produce clerk at the local grocery. His love of flying prompted him to serve as a navigator on B-24s in the Army Air Corps until 1945. Jack's resolve was tested during his first training flight when the plane caught fire and the crew had to bail out. Returning from service, he graduated from San Francisco State University.
Jack and his wife, Naomi, were married in Oakland in 1950 and started their family of four sons. He graduated from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1953 and practiced dentistry in Santa Clara for 30 years. He was assistant professor of dentistry at UOP School of Dentistry and was very active in the California Dental Association.
Boy Scouts gave Jack a great start as a young boy, and he gave back those strengths and ideals as a scout leader to his sons and to his Eagle Scout grandson. His devotion to Scouting continued throughout his retirement.
Jack was a great Rotarian for over 40 years and served as president of the Santa Clara Rotary Club. The Rotary ideals of "service above self" and living with the highest level of integrity is his legacy to his sons.
He was preceded in death by his son, Neal, in 2001.
