Fern Doris Baqir, nee Hoff, 82, Houston, Texas, formerly of Foley and Montgomery, Ala., departed this life in Houston, Texas, Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011.

She was born in St. Clair Dec. 12, 1928, the daughter of Harold Eugene Hoff Sr. and wife Mary Alma Marie, nee McCrary.

In June of 1963, she was united in marriage to Ghalib Muhammed Baqir and she was blessed to have two children.

Mrs. Baqir is survived by her husband, Ghalib Baqir, Houston, Texas; two children, Pam Eastwold and fiance Mike Tashman, Houston, Texas, and Russell Baqir, Blaine, Minn.; one grandson, James Eastwold, Houston, Texas; two brothers, Richard Hoff and wife Rosie and John Hoff and wife Joyce, all of St. Clair; four sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Joan Burnett and husband Ken, Libby Reed and Carol Rae Todisman and husband Jim, all of St. Clair; sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Hoff Sr. and wife Mary; two brothers, Harold E. Hoff Jr., known to all as Bud, and infant William Hoff; and one sister, Helen Jean Russell Redhage.

Mrs. Baqir was a devoted Christian and member of Louetta Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. As a girl, she grew up as a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Lonedell.

During the many years she lived in Alabama, she was an active member of the Women's Missionary Union.

She also was active in helping to deliver Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Red Hat Society in Alabama.

Mrs. Baqir was an outgoing lady with a love for life. Singing, especially with her sisters, was a favorite pastime, as was playing the piano.

She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching sports on television. She loved cats and dogs and had enjoyed the companionship of her dogs, especially her little dog, Sparky.

Mrs. Baqir was happiest when she was spending time with her family and her keen sense of humor and beautiful smile will be missed by them all.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 22, at Bethel Baptist Church, Lonedell, with the Rev. Ben Kingston officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Memorials to ASPCA are preferred.
