Billy Ray Hoff Sr., 82, of Greenville died April 4, 2009, in GreenvilleHe was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Greenville to Ed and Pearl Hoff.

He was blessed to have grown up with a large family, three brothers and three sisters. He attended Greenville public schools and served in the United States Navy as a cook on a battleship. He was well known for his culinary skills. He was very proud of serving his country where he was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon and an Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon.

On April 4, 2009, 10:35 p.m., God called him home. He spent the last four years of his life missing his soul mate who died in November 2005. He married Frances Helena Higgins in August 1964; now they are reunited forever.

After he was discharged from the Navy, he became a dedicated firefighter. He served many years as a fireman for the city of Greenville and then Temco, LTV, E-Systems.

He retired from E-Systems after 30 years in 1988. He was a devoted husband and father; nothing was too good for his wife and sons. He spent a lot of his free time camping in the great outdoors with his family. He enjoyed growing his own garden and cooking. It was not uncommon to find yourself looking down a camera lens, for he was an avid photographer. He had hours upon hours of home videos he had taken.Bill was one of a kind and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, J.C. Hoff; and one sister, Mary Lou Curtis.

He is survived by his three sons, Billy Ray Hoff Jr., Tim Lee Hoff and Terry Dean Hoff; brothers Norman Hoff and Bobby Hoff; sisters Martha Dickens and Betty Coffman; two grandchildren, Heather Bankston and Phillip Lee Hoff; and a great-grandson, Colton Lee Hoff.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.
